Saz/Baglama is a most common long-necked lute used in Turkey and especially in Anatolia and Armenia region. It has seven steel strings in three groups tuned differently depends on regional version or type of performed song. I'm using tuning of Bb, F, C.
Baglama can be played either with or without a plectrum.
Spruce is used for the sounding board, and kelebek wood for the fingerboard. The size of the body and length of the fingerboard depends on the top note desired by the musician ordering the instrument.

It is one of most ancient instruments played today - It's origins comes from about 2000 BC and many remains of direct ancestors of Saz/Baglama has been found during excavations in Middle-East region.
My favourite Saz master is Edalat Nasibov - a virtuoso from Azerbaijan.
